Introduction
Since the 21st December 2002, Fitness Australia has been subjected to the National Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) as amended by the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 (Cth).
Fitness Australia will control the collection, security, quality, use and disclosure of personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
This Privacy Statement explains in general terms how Fitness Australia protects the privacy of your personal information under the National Privacy Principles. It will apply to any personal information you provide to us when registering to our services and / or applying for memberships.
Collection and Use of Information
Information provided by you to Fitness Australia will be used
- to fulfill all of its functions as the peak body of the fitness industry
- to maintain registration and membership records
- to enable members to access the services and benefits available to members of Fitness Australia
- to provide information
- to conduct research and surveys to identify and analyse the ongoing needs of members and the industry
Fitness Australia allows the commercial use of the registration and membership lists in a controlled manner to outside bodies proposing mail-outs. If, as a registered professional and / or a member of Fitness Australia, you wish to have your name excluded from these commercial lists, please advise Fitness Australia in writing.
Disclosure of Information
We disclose your personal information, which is limited to the confirmation or otherwise of registration and / or membership status, to members of Fitness Australia as well as third parties.
We may also disclose your personal information to third party contractors, for example,
- to provide e-mail and mail handling services
- to supply IT services
- to conduct research
In these situations, we prohibit the third party contractors from using personal information about you except for the specific purpose for which we supply it.
Other than the above, we will not disclose your personal information without your consent unless disclosure is either necessary to prevent a threat to life or health, authorised or required by law, reasonably necessary to enforce the law or necessary to investigate a suspected unlawful activity.
Consequences if Information Is Not Provided
If you choose not to provide all or part of the personal information when required, Fitness Australia may not be able to deliver the services you request.
Access to Personal Information
You have the right to request access to your personal information held by Fitness Australia. You also have the right to request the correction of any information, which relates to you and is inaccurate. Any request for modification of information should be advised to Fitness Australia.

If you wish to gain access to your personal information, have a complaint about a breach of your privacy or you have any questions on how your personal information is handled, please address your issues to:
